Another great episode! Rock of the Westies 50 years. It’s been such a long time since I have heard these songs, it really warmed my heart to hear them again. I was actually dancing a bit here. And to hear these wonderful two band members, Caleb Quaye and Kenny Passarelli commenting them, and hearing their stories, well, this episode is a gem.
This album is one of my favourites. I remember from the 90’s, I had heard The One and Your Song, and then became a fan and got Made in England. Then I remembered, that my brother got a pile of vinyl records from the 70’s and 80’s by the end of 80’s. I don’t remember what was the story why he got them, but one of them was Rock of the Westies. He hadn’t appreciated it, so I found it from our family house attic. And then of course started to listen to it, and my first reaction was WHAT ON EARTH IS THIS?! Being 16 in the mid-90’s it was a bit different kind of music I usually heard. But it grew to be a very dear album to me.
So yes, these songs brought great memories to me. When we get to the point here where we hear “I feel like bullet“, I got tears in my eyes, since as a ballad-girl this is my absolute favourite from this album, it is a very beautiful song. And then George tells that he gets tears in his eyes when listening to this song. Wow. Tears, anyone else?
There is this nation wide radio station Radio Rock in Finland, and years ago they had this evening show, where they had every weekday a different theme. Like Heavy Metal or Industrial Rock, and one evening was old rock. Well I sent them a message that you should play Elton John’s Street Kids, since that song really rocks. I was working late that night and didn’t hear them play it. But when I left and went to my car and opened the radio, it was playing. I’m still sad that I didn’t hear what they said about the song. But as, I think Kenny here says, something like “it is a very straight rock song”, it is.
And then another great song here, “Feed Me“, is also my other favourite from the album. I love Ray Cooper’s work there and just the style of the song. Really interesting analyzing of the song here too by the guys.
Well, I think I would have a lot of stories with this very different style but wonderful album, but maybe I let you go and listen to yourself. Have fun.
